Connection at the Bulkhead
Ok so i have a 1 inch drain bulkhead and 3/4 inch return bulkhead. They are both slip from up above and thread to sump. Question Do i buy a threaded fitting that connects to the bulkhead below that screws onto the inside thread or one that screws on to the outside thread of the bulk head? Seems if done on the outside would prevent leaking. Is there even that type of connector?

you want to thread into the inside of the BH, not the outside. I used some teflon tape on the threads to prevent leaks... havent had any issues so far :knock on wood:

even if you wanted to you wouldn't be able to find a part to screw on the outside, it's not a standard pipe thread. you should thread on the inside, like Mr.Tan said. People also recommend teflon paste instead of tape for better seal but haven't had experience myself. Also, my two cents would be if you still have the option to opt-in and get slip-slip BH as gluing PVC is a little better and easier...

Get the paste, I started with tape and all my threaded bulkheads leaked. I removed and used paste and haven't had a problem since

Thanks i want to stick with thread for easy dismantling from the bulk head if needed. I will try the paste instead of the tape.
