Would you try to save these?
Hello all.
I just recently redid my tank about two months ago after a major algae outbreak that I could not control. These zoas have been in my rescue tank and they have pretty much got taken over by bubble algae. Would you try to save them? I'm just worried about transferring the bubble algae spores into my algae free tank. Thanks for your thoughts. |

Personally, I wouldn't. That's a mess!

There are a few that look like they would not be too difficult to chisel off the rocks and then place in a quarantine tank to be sure there are not any bubble algae on them if you liked the zoas.

Dip the rocks in hydrogen peroxide. I should kill off all the algae and the zoas should survive. There's a huge thread on it in the nano reef section. Just take all the normal precautions necessary when working with palys and zoas.

Ive seen that these dips tend to be much better for zoas who is infested with algae. Given their hardy nature most open beautifully after the dip

I think of every frag as a pet. IMHO, You should do everything you can to save them or give them to someone who will.

I will be trying to save them tonight with the peroxide method. I have a few seasoned rocks in my sump I will attach them to. They seem to be able to take the abuse. They all opened up today in the same little container in front of the window. Their colors are almost gone but they are opening up!

They can indeed tolerate a lot of abuse

Once they've made it you'll be so happy with the result (once they've colored back up.) +1 to everyone who encouraged waiting it out.
Reef keeping can be frustrating and this is why we have this community. |
