Eheim Hobby Pump
How safe is it to run the Eheim Hobby Pump Series (1046, 1048) laying on it's side with the output horizontal.
The accompanying literature appears to discourage this with no explanation. |

It can cause additional strain to the bearing and shaft. So that means that it could go from lasting forever to just a tad less. Many calcium reactors have run this way so I would not expect it to be much of a concern.

Thanks, I am hoping to run one in a calcium reactor and having to place it horizontal just makes the plumbing a little less tedious.

I have owned a few reactors with them mounted that way. Also some where they were mounted upward with tubing snaking up making a u-turn and turning toward the reactor.
