Restarting with a move...
I am having to downsize from my 180 into a 40 as I move from a house to a condo downtown.
My 180 has been established for about 3 years and I plan to use some of the live rock and go with bare bottom this time. On the bright side I am able to manage paying rent on both locations to give myself a 3 month window for the move. My main question is how to incorporate my 75g sump. I understand it may be a bit counter intuitive to have a 75g sump and a 40g display, but I would prefer not to replace what I dont have to, and my skimmer and a few other items would require me to keep the 75g sump. Also the 40g is not drilled, does this make sense to do or should I look at a different method for the returns and drains? I am also a bit concerned about my pump and power heads being too strong for that small of a tank. Though I can set the power heads at 10% or something with the apex they still would take up a bit of room. Is it perhaps better to downsize them as well? I do plan to keep SPS so I want to keep the flow high, but I'm afraid it will be too much.

Your moving down in such a dramatic fashion that Im not sure if it is feasible for you to keep all the same equipment. Im still trying to figure out how you would have a 75 sump and 40 DT.
You could switch and make the 75 the DT and get a 40 sump. Would it be that hard to change the sump? Then you only have to look at selling / trading your skimmer for a newer smaller version. And not worry about powerheads and such in the DT.
