Neptune apex would you buy used

Ok so I'm sold on the controller setup now the only question is. Someone from my local fish forum has a Neptune apex system. Comes with the display, they eb8, PM2, no probes. My question to all the people that have a setup would you buy a used system? Supposedly their "getting out" so of course everything works just fine but I would imagine I would have little recourse is something goes awry.
I see retail prices but in your option what would a good "used " price be taken into the account Im going to have to buy a temp probe maybe ph as that's all I really need. Thanks hopefully soon I will be joining you with a fully automated system. Also it looks a little worn from the pictures. The Aqua controller is all black. Not like the new ones I see that has the Orange stickers across the controller. So again what would a good price be and is it worth buying a used system. Thanks everyone

I bought my Apex Lite along with EB8, temp and ph probe used. That was 2 years ago and it still going with no issues. It's the same "all black" that you describe so it's an older unit but all new accessories wok just fine.

I just purchased a used Apex Gold setup complete with PM2, AWM n all probes for $600. I also purchased a black label Apex system with extra EB8 for $400. So price varies.

People seem willing to pay ridiculous amounts for certain used gear, including apex stuff. I'd certainly check for connection corrosion in something that appears it may be more than a year or two old. My own rule of thumb is half of current retail for something more than a couple of years old. Otherwise I just buy new.

With the snow storm we received a few weeks ago we lost power, I hooked up the generator, long story short, my display, EB8, PM1, PM2, WXM got fried.
I locally picked up a less than 1 year old Apex System - display, EB8, base unit, temp, pH and ORP probe for $250. I still had to buy the other modules.
Since my base unit was ok, I now have a spare.
So look around.
