Re-Open UV Sterilizer and Ozone Topic
Looking for opinions on adding a UV Sterilizer to my 300G Octagon that I lease to a Children's Dental Clinic.
If recommending it, how should I properly size it, etc. Thanks in advance! |

I'm in the does use UV and Ozone group.
Look up AquaUV they have sizing charts. I run their classic 25W on my 80. Love the results.

Getting ready to set up ozone in my tank in March. I like ozone and uv filters.

I see no reason to tun UV or ozonizer.
Please convince me I am wrong. Mike |

No fish diseases No dinos No byopsis No algae anywhere Crystal clear water I don't run carbon/gfo/phosphate reduction media of any kind/or any kind of other reactor. I have a pretty heavy fish load in an 80 gal. I feed heavy. I run BB, with low flow thru sump, heavy circulation in tank where it belongs. Again, these are my opinions, these work for me.

Please do not use Ozone around children with an unattended tank.
Both are not needed in reef tank. And yes I have ran both in the past. You would get better result just using carbon instead on ozone. |

OP, you haven't mentioned what you are trying to accomplish.
If you just want clearer water and an extra tool in your pocket for pathogen control, go with the UV. I do agree with the above comment about unattended ozone. The UV is set and forget. Ozone requires more attention. And I would go with a really good brand like an AquaUV Classic. Sizing info is on their website. You NEED to know exactly how much flow will be going through it to properly size it.

Check out americanaquariumproducts.com They have lots of info on UVs (and articles to back them up) and proper sizing, dwell time, build quality, sterilization (lvl 1 and 2) ect... I run a large UV on my 625g for proper redox and water clarity, the UV is capable of level 2 sterilization but I don't rely on it for disease control. I don't use ozone only because its more hands on and I'm not educated enough on the matter

I am just looking for clarity at this time. I do weekly maintenance and routine monthly water changes of 10% minimum. No immediate need, this is more or less to expand my knowledge and see what opinions with proof are out there. |
