10g Lighting?

I'm currently cycling my 10 gallon soon to be reef tank. I bought the tetra starter kit and it came with a nice flat hood with tiny LEDs underneath.
It looks exactly like this but it has 2 instead of 3 led strips.

Will these (6?) LEDs be sufficient?

I will say they will certainly not be enough intensity for coral of any type. Well they may keep some mushrooms alive. You are probably going to have to ditch that top.

I definitely want a top to limit evaporation. Do you have any suggestions?

Only thing I can think of is a glass top, they are sold at most LFS and pet stores like petco. T-5 and a lot of led strip fixtures do not come smaller than 24 inches. A small pendant on a gooseneck should do it for you like a small kessil, ai prime, even something larger like a Chinese black box (turned way down) or a diy fixture. You could always start a thread on the nano sub-forum for more suggestions.

I agree those led's are for a FOWLR tank... If you want corals you will need to add T5HO... JMHO...

Forgo the led's (I know they are great and save energy)... But T5HO work as well as MH etc... Corals as well as clams etc need a specific light K to work... I have leds in all my home lights but I use T5HO for my aquarium... IF you were growing plants what would you use??? Probably not LED...

I'd be sure to get 2 of those.

Are they like spotlights or not very strong?

I'm looking at spotlighting.

I run a Kessil A160WE over my 15 here at work and even a foot over the water, the shadowing along the edges of the tank is very apparent. If I could be bothered to spend another 300 on what is basically a living Solitaire deck I would definitely get another pendant.

There are LEDs that grow plants just fine. Plenty of people have had great success with LED lights on reef tanks.

OP, that pendant seems a little weak. It most likely wouldn't cover the whole tank well at all. Two might, what corals do you plan on keeping?

Yeah everyone seems to agree that I will need two. I've got my eye on some zoas, ricordea, xenia, clove polyps, and a hammer somewhere in the future.
