Fluval Edge Fresh-Salt convert questions
Hi all, this is my first post here
![]() 1) Do I need to buy a new light? I do want some corals, but i'm not too bothered if keeping the original lighting limits my coral selection too much. 2) Do I need a protein skimmer for such a small tank? I've seen some people say that you do need a skimmer, while others say that it isn't completely necessary. Thanks in advance! ![]() |

Yeah...you're going to want a new light to grow coral. If you get a cheap light you may be able to grow some easy corals like mushrooms. Keeping the existing lights will prohibit your from getting pretty much any coral.
You won't need a protein skimmer for a 12 gallon. You would substitute a protein skimmer for larger and more frequent water changes. I believe their is a subsection here dedicated to nano tanks and they may be able to guide your further in that regard. |
