Exclamation Banggi bullying banggi?

I have a 20gallon reef tank with a mated pair of ocellaris clowns and two banggi cardinal fish. I just got a second banggi yesterday to keep my other banggi company, due to the fact that they are schooling fish. I acclimated it, and dropped it in the tank. They hit it off great and then I noticed the new addition was hovering very low in the tank when the lights went out, and then high in the tank gasping for air when it came back on. I could see were its anal and pectoral fins had been picked at and have split. My water parameters are good, and I have not witnessed any bullying behavior but the clowns, or the other cardinal.. The other cardinal hovers closely to it but doesn't nip or chase it. Any ideas? I have a few hermits and a bta in the tank as well.

Would a mated pair of clowns consider a small 20 gallon all their own?

it's unlikely the clowns are the problem. it's normal for bangaii's to fight unless they are a bonded pair. pj's are a bit better in groups. schooling fish in the ocean doesn't mean a thing for aquariums. most will not school in tanks.

^^ That would be correct but I also agree in that size tank the clowns may become territorial soon, probably very soon, and I would not add much more other than maybe small inverts

20g is to small for a Banggi

I have 3 in a 215G and they fight like cats and dogs all day long, they actually hunt each other down constantly.

Really? That's a bummer.. Thanks for the feed back guys. I took the banggai back to the lps because I didn't wanna see it stress and suffer. The clowns never even looked at it, but my original Banggai hangs out with my clowns all day and no issues, but that may change.

I added 3 to my 75 last December. Two paired up, the third was gone within a few days. The remaining two are doing fine. Guess 2's company; 3's a crowd. (Ouch!)

This. The clownfish will become territorial.

it may be possible the fins were damaged during netting? I have done some damage sadly to one of benggais when I netted him sadly.
