Cyano in sump?
As the title says, I'm dealing with cyano in my sump and refugium area. I'm "growing" chaeto with a CFL 6500k bulb but frankly it hasnt really grown. Was lighting for 12 hours but upped to 18 a week or so ago to try to get more growth, which as expected, made the cyano a little worse. My display is relatively clean of any cyano but since upping the refugium light schedule, I have noticed small spots of cyano growth in the display (nothing too noticeable) as well as some gha startup to come. My tank is approx 5 months old and I'm not sure what action to take, as my parameters all seem good which shouldn't be growing algae? I used red slime remover once and it worked for a while then came back and I don't want to use chemicals again if I don't have to. Anyway here are my tanks parameters.
Salinity: 1.025 Calc: 410-420 Alk: 7.7 Mag 1300-1350 Ph: 8.1 Phos: 0-5 PPB (Hanna checker) Nitrate: consistently 0 with api |

A quick video illustrating the sump growth. Every week I do a 15 gallon water change and siphon out all the cyano from sump so this is basically one weeks worth before I clean it today. |
