Coralife 150W HQI or LEDs For 30g?
So I saw this metal halide for around $25 at my LFS today and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them. It's used from what I can see, and there was one next to it that was out of box but the same price. Is this thing worth the money? How long do the bulbs usually last on these guys? Would I need more than one for a 30g (roughly 36x13x19)? I've been trying to figure out for a while now whether I wanted LEDs or MH for my tank and I've read a lot of conflicting opinions. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

It is a spotlight so you would need two of them to adequately light the tank. They have a very narrow coverage.

What about actinics, or moonlights for the dusk dawn effect. That's something to consider.

Two of those lights for $50 is a great deal. Two over a 36" tank will be a great lighting choice. Replace the bulbs with a good, quality 20K bulb and you will be all set.
I'd get those. |

$25 is a REALLY good price. Tough to let that slide by.

Bulbs should last 14-16 months or more. Don't worry about disk to dawn or moonlights, they aren't needed and the 10k bulb has a huge spike at 420nm, additional actintics will be for visual appeal.

They come with a bulb and when you need to replace, it will depend on what you can find. I like the Ushio 10k but most brands are very similar.
