If they are not compatible, it is not due to color. How old are they?
If they are both female or both male, you may have a problem brewing.
And they are an aggressive species to begin with.

I kept my maroon in a mixed reef for about 10 years before it went on a murder spree and killed my dwarf lion, marine betta, royal gramma, CBS, all my CUC, and nearly my potters angel in the span of a weekend. Unless you are housing your maroons in a VERY large tank, I would reconsider keeping them. Mine was in a 60 cube with plenty of rock work.

Yeah well when I got home after work he had killed my fish! I think I'll take him back to the local fish store and get something else. I hate to lose fish! They are just plain mean.........
