future calcium reactor setup help please?

In a year or so i plan on getting a top notch cal. reactor setup on my system, so far my system consists of 250g usable water volume in the future it will be 400-500g so when i buy a reactor i only want to buy one nothing to upgrade.

Over kill i know but i will upgrade in the future to around 400- 500g and it will be very well stocked.

But here is what im looking at so far help me with whatever i need to add this is going to be a big investment so i want the best.

1st question of many to come!
Can i just only add as much media as my system requires at that time even though its a huge reactor and add more media at a time as my system continues to expand and evolve? Or do i have to totally fill it each time?

More or less media doesn't make a huge difference to the actual tank buffering - adding more will simply make it last longer (within limits - if its just remnant sand at the bottom there isn't enough to dissolve). The goal is to adjust the effluent drip rate while maintaining a stable pH in the reactor its self.

Thank you for the quick response, i have alot of room to expand down stairs as i go and still am going to get a bigger DT upstairs but i always want to upgrade my equipment before i go bigger with my tanks but i wanted more then a big enough reactor and this fits the bill. lol

I use my Apex and the Reborn media. CaribSea media also is fine.

Or would this be a better option on a ph controller then the Milwaukee or the RK?

Ok feed pump for the reactor
I know im going to hear Masterflex pump but i havent got over $1000 so please give me cheaper options that people use successfully. Dont get me wrong im sure there bullet proof absolutely but way to expensive with all the money im going to be throwing at the initial setup already.

Your plan and intended equipment list will serve you well. Use a stand alone controller for the reactor and the RK to monitor.

Its just even with my magus doser the perimeters fluctuate some "not much" in between dosing and i know when setup properly calcium reactors are rock solid stable and that will be my end goal and the last of my equipment after i get my ATS next i pretty much have everything else.
But this will easily be my most expensive upgrade to date with everything im going to get for this setup!

If that is your goal, consider adding a continuous duty peristaltic pump (Cole-Parmer) to control effluent rate, then it will be absolutely rock solid.

What do you recommend for a stand alone controller for it?

I might just do that but it will take alot longer to piece this setup together but i guess all good things come to those that can wait.
Im into one of the most time consuming patient hobbies and i have non what a conundrum but i still love it!

My Milwaukee has been rock solid since 2006, but PinPoint also makes a good one.

Do an advanced search on user Tkeracer619, he has a thread on the one you want. Digital with quick change heads, they come up used on eBay for much less than new. I can't do the search from where I am.

The Calcium reactor with effluent pulled out using a peristaltic is the only way to go. So very solid and reliable! I'm very happy with my Geo reactor, built solid and works very well, priced very reasonably.

I will for sure use a peristaltic pump on this im sold and with the prices on ebay i cant go wrong, but with these upgrades ive been trying to get done lately( i have two more to go) and then i will start piecing the setup together.
So ive really been thinking about getting the pump part of this expensive pie out of the way first.
