Sump size for 120g?

Upgrading from 24g to 120g. What size sump/return pump? Tank is plumbed with center overflow and 2 returns. I was thinking dyi 40g breeder sump? What return pump?

Assuming normal under the stand type of configuration, I would run an eheim 1262. As far as sump size goes, the bigger the better. As long as it will fit into the space that you have for it. I think the 40gal breeder tanks make for nice size sumps when you can fit them under the stand.

My 120DT uses a 40b for the sump and an eheim 1262 as the return. The return also feeds a manifold for my reactors.

I have a 40b and it's perfect on my 120g
Eheim 1262 is still my favorite return pump, just check your drain size to make sure what it can handle.

I have the deep blue 80g which has the same footprint as a 120 just not as tall, and I'm using essentially a 40b (Trigger Systems Tideline), and a M1 Vectra. Keep in mind that you cannot go wrong going as big as possible if you have the room/plumb it to another room like the basement.

Yes a 40b will fit. I'll look up dyi sump builds. Someone suggest a dc pump to be able to adjust the flow, is that not really needed ? Thanks for the replies.

I am using a 40 breeder and 2 sicce syncra 3.0 pumps for my 120. Together I should be getting 800-900 gph at my lift.

I am also using a 40 breeder under a 120g DT. I have a Fluval SP4 as my main pump - it also feeds my refugium and two reactors. I have a second SP4 for my skimmer. I'm quite happy with the pumps.

IMHO, a DC pump is nice to have. But you can also restrict flow via plumbing.

125 display with 40breeder sump. Two 1" drains and a blue line external return pump. Pump is supposed to be 1100 gph.

On my 120 I'll be using one of these:

And a EcoTech Return.
