A fresh start. How does my plan sound?
I just recently upgraded to a 40-gallon breeder from a 17 gallon nano I felt rushed and I'm pretty unhappy with the way that the Aquascape turned out in my 40gallon I'm also struggling with ich in my tank. So I am thinking that I will take the opportunity to redo my Aquascape while I treat my fish in a hospital tank for 8 - 10 weeks.
And I'm hoping while the fish are out for those 8 to 10 weeks that it will give my 40gallon breeder enough time to cycle given that I plan to replace the Rock with new live rock and the live sand as well. I was planning on using my 17 gallon that I just upgraded from 2 house too small clownfish in the fire fish as my Hospital tank adding a heater into a hang on the back filter with no lights does this sound sufficient? I'm also concerned about the frog in my tank it has about 20 heads and I would hate to lose that while the tank was cycling what would you suggest to do with that will it live through the cycle |

I think your plan sounds fine.
There are a few things you can do to save the frogspawn. Find someone you trust to hold it for you. Cycle the new live rock in a separate container before adding to the tank or set up a separate tank for the frogspawn since the ich treatment will kill it if you put it in with the fish. The tank only needs light, heater, power head and frequent water change. Adding other stuff like filter, carbon, some live rock from the 40 will make the maintenance a little easier. It is not important how you keep it, but if you keep good water quality good than the frogspawn will make it just fine. Good Luck. |
