What Maintenance Are You Laziest About?

This should be a fun thread...

What is the task you put off the most? For me its water testing...ooooh I'm in trouble! I test cal, mag, alk and sg once a week but nothing else...i.e. phos and nitrate. Have an ammonia badge in the tank though.

Also, my tank is somewhere around 6-8 months along and I have yet to pull the moving parts and run them thru vinegar. That's a task for the next long weekend. How often do most of you do that? 6 mths?

To tell you the truth, nothing. It's all just become a routine, not to mention that I get a kick out of it.

Making my ESV salt for a water change. I've figured out if I make 5 gals for each weekly water change I stick to it. Everything else I enjoy thoroughly.

I hate water changes right now because I don't have my mixing station set up yet. It takes so damn long to make 10gals of RO/DI water.

Cleaning my powerheads for sure. I do my weekly tests, water change, grab some algae, clean the glass, dump the skimmer, then I look at the powerheads and think, "Next time."
I need to buy a third one so I can have two in the tank and one running in the vinegar bucket.

You're supposed to clean those? Kidding...I'd say that's my main laziness; breaking down and cleaning equipment.

That and I should vary the tank's diet more. Hauling out the frozen stuff, thawing it, rinsing it is just enough a hassle that it doesn't happen as frequently as I intend.

I think that guy Paul is an example of this. Just a petri dish... Life will take it's course though, one way or the other...

I'm not big fan btw. I just think he likes to here himself talk...

Cleaning the glass, soaking the pumps in vinegar, doing water changes and testing the water. :-) I only test for nitrate and occasionally test for phosphate. I only do water changes when I put in new life into the tank. I have a serious case of LARS ;-). Fortunately my tank is set up to handle it.

So far it has been testing. Need to buy different tests, It seems to take forever for me to complete them.

No smell? It would be nice to not have to mess with it every week.

The Davy Jones locker has a carbon air like filter on top of it where the air vents out to reduce the smell. And on top of the skimmer's lid I taped the holes so air doesn't get out and shoved the skimmers airline intake into one of them to draw back in the stinky air. No smell that I can tell or more importantly my wife.

I don't use a skimmer because I just could not stand dealing with skimmate. It is a vile substance, and I can keep my params in check without a skimmer. I don't mind anything else. I change my filter floss every other day, takes 5 seconds. Weekly water changes. Clean my pumps every 2 months.

How do you clean those? I wipe them down but there's coralline algae growing all over them.

What tests do you have? I have the Hagen Nutrafin Master Test kit. And I find the Calcium Test is extremely frustrating.
