We're probably going to need a non-blurry photo in order to be able to offer much assistance.
In the meantime, why don't you tell us the history of your fish. How long have you had it?Did you quarantine and if so what method(s) did you use?
Also, parameters are things in numbers not words. It is most helpful to us helping you if you use numbers.

I hope this picture is slightly better very hard to get him turned on his side where the patches are visible

I've had him approx 3 months his only tank mates are a pair of clowns and a cleaner shrimp

Params are:
Nitrate 0
Phosphate 0
Ph 8.35
Ammonia 0
KH 8
Mag 1350
Cal 420
Salinity 1.026

Test regularly and also get icp tests done with no swings. Running triton method. Tank has been running for 2 years. Heavily stocked with lps and some softies.

He's in a 85gal tank and is approx 2.5"-3"

Eating perfect no change in breathing or swimming acting normal

Is it possible he could have been stung by my Nem? I've a long tentacle approx 10" when fully opened in the day.

Other fish have no signs of any spots on them. I didn't qt this fish my lfs did for 6 weeks. There treatment is copper

I run ozone and skim heavily with a deltec sc1456 also running a carbon reactor which I plan on taking out as I have only started running ozone.

Thank you

It's somewhat hard to determine from the photograph. If you're speaking of the single white spot in the photograph near the caudal fin (the "tail"), that strongly looks like ich. If you're speaking of the diffuse whitish patches on the throat/pelvic fins, that looks like malnutrition to my eye. You've not mentioned what you're feeding your fish - that can be important.

With respect to QT, pretty much any of us on the board will tell you that you can't rely on an LFS to do QT properly - you have to do it yourself. Also, realize that an 85g tank is going to be pretty cramped for a full grown purple tang, though at 2-3", it will be OK for 3 months or so (tangs grow extremely quickly).

Finally, realize that running ozone in a reef tank can be very tricky. It's really easy to have substantial concentrations of ozone in the tank water as a whole, which is not good for the fish or other critters.

I've never seen ich show up one single white spot normally hundreds and it's the fins/gills that have them first rather than the body - ime that's what I've noticed

Gets a mixture of mysis, flake, red / green seaweed so diet is good and eats really well

I trust my lfs as it is a friend who owns it and i physically can see the fish as and when I want.

I understand tangs grow quickly but the tank will be fine for longer than 3 months i have seen these fish with 20 others in 20-50 gal tanks. He's basically by himself as the clowns don't leave there Nem.

That depends on how high of a dosage your running or if you understand ozone and the levels your tank can sustain before having any impact on livestock. I run a Red Sea ozone with an orp at a very low level so I am 100% it has no affect.

Typically ich does start with just a few (or one) spots, then many more a couple of weeks later, as would be consistent with its lifecycle.

A word to the wise - please don't suggest that a tang from the zebrasoma genus, will be A-OK in a 20-50 gallon tank on Reef Central, especially "with 20 others". You'll get hammered for it.

One can debate whether a zebrasoma requires a 6 foot tank or will be OK in a large 4-footer (120 gallons, minimum), but there's really no question about a 20-50g - it's not really a subjective judgement under those conditions.

This fish doesn't have ich I have seen hundreds of fish with ich including purple tangs - I came on here for more advanced opinions so if your jumping on the ich bandwagon save your time and don't comment.

For your information I never said its ok for a tang to be housed in a tank that size I clearly said I have seen tangs in tanks so don't tell me your opinion on housing tangs please I didn't ask for that.

Another word to the wise - rude or combative comments will get you banned from Reef Central. Very quickly.

I only see one white spec on my end. Maybe the white patches you're referring too are not showing up in the pic. The OP can check the attitude at the door. We don't need it.

But if I am looking for advice on a problem with a fish then that's all I am looking for. Not on how to house them not about ozone. If I wanted that sort of advice I would ask

dkeller has been trying to help you with all options. Its kinda hard to tell your experience level with your recent join date...and the fact that you posted this under NEW TO THE HOBBY. If you're gonna get defensive whenever someone looks at all angles for you and offers advice (when considering the points above), perhaps you shouldn't post your questions on a forum at all. [Said in my most non-combative tone]

Like I said I asked for advice on a fish not housing a fish nor ozone. My experience is nobody's business I was told to come on here and look for advice for some more "experienced" reefers! This is exactly why I don't join these groups because everyone likes to go off topic and then sit on there fingers when a direct question is asked. This is said in the most combative tone possible - please read previous posts if you've noting to actually say best not say it at all

Kezzas,

Change your tone, or change forums. It is as simple as that. We don't welcome that type of attitude here.

Sounds like a good policy to continue...but for different reasons.

Can't say I will, seeing as I'm still fairly new to the hobby...but let me offer a "thank you" for your kind comment on behalf of the experienced reefers here who provide helpful assistance on countless occasions to those of us humble enough to listen.

I think what you wanted was to use the possessive form of "their" instead of the "there" that you used before fingers. You used it as an adverb. Sorry to go off topic.

How long has it been there? Could it be a grain of sand?
