Skimmer Life Span

Is there a life span on skimmers? I have an Aqua C EV180 and it is acting different as of lately. I haven't changed a thing I do other than an additional mechanical filter pad after the skimmer. Do skimmer get worn out and not perform optimally after some years? The skimmer is at least 10 years old.

Its just a container with a pump. Most skimmer pumps dont last 10yrs. Try replacing the pump or cleaning it really good

Good ole Mag 7. I'll try cleaning it. Skimmer was just cleaned about three months ago.

Not familiar with those skimmers, but I'd double check the air line, particularly at the point where the air is introduced to the water. I know you said you cleaned it a few months ago, but calcium carbonate can build up relatively quickly and clog it up. Having just cleaned it could have cleaned it of the bacterial film that tends to covers everything, which opens the door for calcium carbonate to form on the clean surface instead.

If it is, a vinegar soak should clean it up, and maybe run a paper clip or something thru it as well to make sure it's cleared out - calcium carbonate is like a rock.

I use a drill bit by hand to clean out openings.
