Ammo/Nitrites help

Need a little help and advice from you guys. I added a dottyback, hammer coral, torch, and some xenias last sunday. This past week params have been all over.

Ammo .25
Nitrites .50 - 1.0
Nitrates 40

I believe we were overfeeding by giving the dotty back Mysis shrimp 2 x day. Ive done several 5 gal water changes and started dosing stability from kent marine daily to attempt to have more bacteria to catch up with the bioload. Tank is about 2 months old. Everything seems fine in the tank. Nothing has died but I know if these numbers stay here things will go badly. Should I continue to do water changes daily?

You have a 25g? Just going by signature.

Pics of tank, and some details, like amount of rock, sump, rock in sump etc. The tank is cycling right now. Nitrite is lethal to fish and ammonia isn't much kinder.

I'd back off the feeding to 1/2 of one feeding once per day, and keep up the wc (even do 10g per day with matched parameters and temp) and dose stability after the wc. Also increase oxygen with a bubbler in the sump or tank if you have one.

Why would you add Xenia? It will over run your tank very quickly.

Thanks for the reply. Yes tank is a 25gal IM Lagoon.

I started with dry rock from a purple reef which is a man made rock, about 10-12lbs id say in the tank. ALso started with dry sand reef grade. I cant remember how much.

I have a filter caddy with a ball of chaeto (about a baseball size) and also carbon running. No sump.

Ive also added a ghost protein skimmer. And I have only been feeding very very little to my dotty back, about 2-3 little Mysis shrimp/day. I even washed the Mysis with tank water through a fish net to eliminate the oils.

Id also say there is about 18-20gal water volume.

I let the tank cycle 6 weeks prior to adding livestock. All params were zero. testing with API kits.

And the wife likes xenia, its her tank also.

I used ammonia from my LFS, and also Fritz Zyme 9 live nitrifying bacteria.

Thanks for the replys, I really appreciate it. This has me really frustrated. My first Nano and I'm learning they are very sensitive.

Small tanks need a lot more work compared to bigger tanks

I see that! Might have to upgrade soon!

So you think just keep doing large water changes to keep those numbers low and it will eventually re-cycle?
