A little over a year in.
I am still relatively new compared to others, but just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I have a 90 gallon reef tank that I have had for about a year and 4 months going on 5. I just recently bought the new neptune apex system with a DOS to do automatic water changes. I don't have any SPS in my tank yet, but now I run the zeovit system to keep my water clean so I can put SPS in my tank. I also have 2 radion g3 pros on my tank so lighting isn't a problem. As far as the corals I just have a mixture of LPS, a devil's hand, a few xenias, a few zoas, star polyp and one that looks like a little palm tree. As far as fish I have a few green chromis, yellow tang, sailfin tang, engineer goby, yellow tail damsel, 2 snowflake clowns, yellow watchman goby, malanurus wrasse and I think that covers it. My phosphates and nitrates are at 0, nitrites at 0, ammonia at 0. My magnesium is at about 1400, potassium last checked at 420, calcium at 520. I use Kent Reef Salt right now too.
Anyway, I hope to meet some other reefers in here and get to know people. |

Hi Moonchild!
I have had saltwater fish tanks on and off for a little over 20 years, and I still consider myself new to the hobby. So many things to learn and it seems to be ever evolving. There is a wealth of information here on Reef Central, and a lot of passionate fellow reefers to help us along the way. Your tank sounds like it's doing great! You should post some pics or maybe start a thread in the "Tank Build" forum. Welcome and see you around RC!

Hey Guys
It's nice to meet you! I will have to get some pics of my tank to share with you! Right now I am battling a little bit of algae in my tank. Just a few months ago I had a severe algae breakout in my tank and had to take all of the rocks out and scrub them in the bath tub by hand. It's been a few months since I did that, but small amounts of algae is coming back. I am doing an experiment with Hydrogen Peroxide to see if it clears the algae without me changing anything in my tank first. So far I am noticing some recession of algae in one spot. I felt leery and nervous about doing this, but I can't let the algae get back to like it was. There are no phosphates and nitrates in my tank for it to feed off of, so it might just be leaching from the live rock. I even used the red sea nitrate pro test and it read 0. By the way I am dosing 1ml for every 10 gallons so that's 10 ml of peroxide every day and I am at day 5. At first the corals shriveled up a little bit, but they got used to the peroxide and came back out. I am keeping an eye on things and hopefully don't lose any inverts. I just have a coral banded shrimp a handful of snails and hermit crabs.
