Rasing Salinty

Hi over the last few day ive been checking the salinity if may water and realise it has dropped down to 1023 (doggy refractrometer) generally i have it 1025. So to put this right up top off with saltwater until.you get to your desired level which is fine. The problem is my tank doesnt really need topping of that often, so i cant get back to 1025 what should i do?

even if you top off infrequently using saltwater is still the best way to raise salinity. i assume since you keep it at 1.025 you keep coral and if you add it quickly you run the risk of hurting things.

Yes i keep coral just hope it dont effect them with the low salinity. It only rang alarm bells when i did my parameter checks so of my levels were off key.

IMO thats too small of a difference to cause any problems at all..
.002 is really nothing to worry about..
Personally I only worry when you get to .010 difference

Its fine to add a bit of salt to the top off water or just correct it on your next water change with water slightly over 1.025/1.026..
There is a calculator running around somewhere to tell you exactly what salinity your next water change water should be at to set the level right again..

I agree with mcgyvr.

https://www.hamzasreef.com/Contents/Calculators/

click on the salinity tab.

I'm guessing you meant to say "dodgy refractometer?" If so I'd either get some calibration fluid, or have it double checked by someone else first before possibly chasing an erroneous number.
