Need Some Help With Sump Baffles

I am building a new sump for my 30g cube. I am thinking of just going with a 10g tank as its the only thing that can fit under the stand.

I am not sure what size to cut the baffles. I am thinking I want the water level to be 7" so I need one that is ?x7" and the other one I was thinking of just doing ?x8"

I just dont know how wide the baffle can be to fit in a 10g sump. I know the tank is 10" wide but I know thats not the right size.

Side note: Using a Reef Octopus NWB-110 so 7" water level should be just fine.

Measure the width of the tank and minus the width of the glass for your 10gallon. If you decide to go with a higher baffle height you can always put the skimmer on a home made stand to get your water height in the right spot

I wouldn't even use the baffles in a sump that small. Just make sure that the return nozzle isn't too far under the water in the DT. This will prevent the sump from overflowing during a power outage. Keep it simple.

MEASURE IT..
DON'T go off measurements online.. Each tank is slightly different..
Subtract 1/8" from the measured interior dimensions and go for it..
(You are using glass right for the baffles)..

One of the most important parts of baffle height is ensuring you have left enough space for the water that WILL flow back into the sump when the power goes out (return pump off)..

Check the skimmer footprint: the 10 g may be too narrow.

We subtracted 1/8", the tiny space filled in easily with silicone. Make sure your stand is also tall enough...I thought I could do as Irishman said and just put my skimmer on a stand but when I tried it I found my tank stand isn't tall enough to accommodate the height of the skimmer plus raising it up. In the end we had to remove the old baffles and put in shorter ones so the skimmer I had already purchased would work. Make sure you have room to get the cup off too. Don't trust online measurements, measure everything yourself, then double check and do it again.

I already have the skimmer and I have a really tall stand for my 30g cube so that it is easier to view so stand height is no problem. I did a test fit last night and I am going to get 2x 9 7/8 x 8 and 1x 9 7/8 x 7. Ill have a baffle on each side of the 7" tall one for a better bubble trap. I know I can do a double baffle but the sump I built for my 220g only has a double and it doesnt prevent all the bubbles from getting through. going to use 1/4 glass as I think 1/8th is just to thin I am sure it would work but for a few exta $ thats fine.
