My 20G RBY Fish Only With Coral Tank
Hi everyone at RC. I am andrew from Singapore. Happened to be in states for a while thus decided to share my tank with fellow reefers here.
My tank is a 2" * 1.5" * 42cm (20G) tank with eheim canister running as a core filter. I am using two LED (Maxspect + zetlight) as light source. There are of course other equipments which I am using too, will go through the list when time comes. I am a 70% fish lover and 30% coral guy and my LS reflects that to certain extend. To overcome the physical limitation of my tank, i have been buying smaller size fish and re-home them when they grow too big for my tank.

Beautiful fishes. Living the dreams of many reefers. Rehoming when the fishes have outgrown is a good strategy too. Cheers.

beautiful tank corals and photography!
however in my option it is WAY overstocked even with small fish and re-homing. you have great reefing skills why not upgrade to a bigger tank? if that is not a poss. I would remove most fish from the tank and focus on your corals with a few select fish. |

I am focusing on 3cm fishes going forward. from experience, I will have 9 to 12 months to enjoy the fish before it grow from 3cm to maybe 3 or 4 inches.

What I talk about when I talk about coral
In Singapore, there is this "trend" of reefers blindly going for coral with sexy names. be it SPS or zoas, if the id is not sexy, there wont be a rush to buy it. They are often the same group of reefers where pocket is deeper than their skill, I termed them the "buy die, buy die" reefers as they will buy coral even when their tank are not ready for it. Of course it is their money and their tank and as long as they enjoy the hobby, who am I to judge them.

My current fish list:
1) 2* black onyx clown fish (breeding pair) 2) 2* flame angels 3) 2* blue eyes anthias 4) 1* blue tang 5) 1* clown tang 6) 1* saflin tang 7) 2* mandarin fish 8) 1* queen angel 9) 1* lemonpeel 10) 1* cleaner wrasse 11) 1* blueface angel 12) 1* neon dottyback 13) 1* sixline wrasse 14) 1* miller blenny although most of the fishes are mini to small sizes, i find their bio load still on the manageable side.

What I talk about when I talk about light - 07 Oct 2016
When it comes to lighting for marine, there have always been debates on which is the best light for LS, MH VS T8 (last time), or now T5 VS LED (now). Reefers in Singapore are no difference, the two main camps are T5 and LED (not surprising). Supporters of T5 will relentlessly say that T5 for SPS is the only way to go, while LED supporters will cite the cost, features, etc of LED that T5 can't beat. I am using LED, in fact two LED sets for my 2ft tank. Maxspect r420r and zetlight ZT6500. So far I am very happy that I have chosen LED over T5. My personal observation on why LED fail to work for some reefers are due to: 1) More often than not, LED reefers are also newbies reefers. Unlike T5, there are more settings that the reefers can choose (read: play). So, without knowing the PAR (chart), intensity, duration of their newly acquired LED, the (newbies) reefers just turn on their LED and "randomly" apply the settings. Needless to say, their LS suffers. 2) Thinking that lighting is the be all and end all of keeping healthy LS, reefers start to neglect their water. Coral die, buy new LED. Coral brown, buy new LED. Algae bloom, buy new LED. True that LED lens losses its intensity 10% to 20% annually and thus LED DOES requires replacement in the long run, but if your LED is new (less than two years old) and it is a reputable brand (not those china LED company which don't even dare to show their company address in their official websites), buying new LED won't stop your LS from dying. 3) some reefers are just not suitable for reefing, so using T5 or LED won't actually make a different at the end. Please raise your hand if you are like me, who has come across reefer from 1), 2) or 3)... I think that is about it for this update, till we meet again, happy reefing, world. P/S: life is short, reef hard.

Please do your fish a favor and get them new homes. Those fish have no right being in a tank that small, despite their size
