Help Overdose

Hi everyone,
I am dripping mrs wages and have been for some time. For some reason the autotop off just dumped all my water in the tank. Now my tank is covered in the white residue. My fish seem okay. But most have gone into hiding. My corals though have all closed up and look extremely stressed. I tested the water and these were off,
Alk was at 12.8
Calcium at 590
Magnesium at 1200
Ph at 8.8

Now my first reaction would be to do a water change but I have no water made up and would take hours to fill. Then mix on top of it.

I'm at a loss and need help with that to do? Or if I should leave it?

Thanks!

Had the same thing happen to me. 5 Gallons of saturated kalk water dumped into my tank, my parameters were pretty close to yours. I did a big WC several hours later(after I got water made and mixed, you can use it in a pinch right after you mix it and it clears). Everything was slightly peeved to say the least, but nothing died. I would be more worried about the salinity drop from all the fresh water over the parameters from the overdose.

One of the reasons we like to use Kalkwasser is its pretty benign even if overdosed. I wouldn't sweat it too much, I think you'll be fine once the WC is done.

Just start to make your new salt water and do a large WC as soon as you can. Parameters obviously aren't ideal, but could be much worse.

Good luck!

Looking at my parameters it appears my PH is more 8.4ish. Everything in my tank seems angry. Not sure if I shouldn't leave it for now? My salinity is fine.

Leave it. This has happened to me twice.

1: the haze you see is calcium percepitent. It's actually a good thing that once the calcium gets so high, it will precipitate. It prevents it from skyrocketing. In a Kalk overdose, the big cloud is desirable.

2: stop testing. With all the percipitation in the water, you won't get accurate results.

3: avoid the urge to change the water. Suddenly driving the water down to normal will cause more stress than letting the system right itself slowly.

4: it will take a day or so for the water to clear. Once it does, everything will be covered in calcium particles. As the calcium level drops to normal, those particles will be absorbed. That usually takes 2 days.

Long story short, just let it go. Everything will be back to normal in about 3 days. Kalk is actually pretty safe.

Just had this happen in my tank after dosing 1/3 gallon of alk and calc by ME.

Solid white tank. I'm currently riding it out.

This it'll be ok?

It'll be fine. Mine has looked like that twice. All the cloud is good. If it's precepitant, then it's not in the water column.

You'll have to deal with a dusting when it settles, but it will be absorbed as the Alk drops.

I seem to have made it through the night. Corals seem ****ed but I haven't accounted for any deaths at this point.
