Aiptasia question
I'm currently getting a 90 gallon tank started. Today I filled the tank with sand and live rock. Some of the live rock had some aiptasia on it and I want to get rid of it before I get any fish or coral in the tank.
How can I elminate it? right now all thats in the tank is the live rock and sand, so is there anyway to kill the aiptasia that won't harm the tank for the future? My initial thought was don't heat, or light the aquarium but I know the aiptasia can be strong |

Berghias, kalk paste, lemon juice, filefish, Aiptasia X...
Dr. Holothuria's 3 step guide to killing Aiptasia, 100%! 1. Take rock out 2. Set it out in the sun for a week 3. The aiptasia is dead |

yeah I have a couple aptasia. Pretty small. I put super glue over one but it found a hole.....I have heard boiling water and lemon juice work.
I will just be getting aptasia X next time im at the LFS. have some brown palythoas that came on my rock that are spreading worse then the Aptasia. |

I had a lot of them. Two peps ate them within two weeks but they then ate my torch and trachy. They're still in the tank but now eat tank food

Aptasia
If you catch it early enough you can nail it all with Joe's Juice...
You have to keep treating it because 20% of what you thinkkk you killed comes back in a week... So..keep nailing it every week till not a single head is seen anywhere... Now...iffff that does not work then I would get a copper banded butterfly...Mine completely eradicated every single one in my large 280 gallon.... I did not check size of your tank or your parameters etc...Copper bands are a CHALLENGE to even the best reefers so..be well aware of their needs and challenge before you buy one... An alternative is an apatasia eating file fish.... easy to keep..but NOT as effective as the copperband. Best of luck Tim

A combination of Joes Juice (kalk paste) and no light would work well since you do not have any livestock yet.

Not having any light will do nothing to aiptasia. I have plenty in my non-light sump.
Squirting things at them will just tick them off and pop up little ones from pieces left over. It can help but having something to eat those little clones is what will be needed to really finish them off.

Take all the rock out and let the aiptaisia die. Maybe bleach the rock, and return to tank when done.

Matted file fish did the trick for my. My old set up had them in the sump and overflow, but the display was clear. He also made short work of my palys and zoa's.

I think the only reason you would consciously put Aiptasia in a tank is if you have never seen an Aiptasia infestation.

You just put the rock in yesterday? Take it back out and burn them off. They make satisfying little pops and sizzles when you take a lighter to them

Is there anyway to kill them without putting livestock in to kill it or without killing the live rock?

Spot killing it won't kill the live rock.

easy
Aptasia is easy you just have to be relentless...every day you go in and squirt every single animal...the next day youDO IT AGAIN...repeat until they are all dead...it takes a week or two at nailing every day! done.. easy...
at least easier then some algae problems I can tell ya. Tim
