Gyre xf130 gets louder?

Recently bought myself the gyre xf130 as I've heard good reviews on it. Once I placed it in my tank everything was fine for about an hour, but then the noise slowly gets louder..

it's on pulse mode and I can hear a humming from the slow/fast motion of the gyre...

If I turn the pump off and back on or put the flow in forward then switch back to reverse mode it stops for an hour or two but the noise comes straight back.

Really annoying as it's in my living room

I know they need a break in period but I don't think it should start quiet and then get louder? Any ideas what this could be before I just return it and stick with my jebao

First step.. Break it all down, clean and put it back together..
More than likely there are bushings that the impeller shafts ride in thats either getting "distorted" from heat or something like that..

My Jebao gyre clone just crapped out after less than 3 months.. It was super annoying too and I believe that the bushing failure was the problem there too..
I went back to regular PP8 power heads vs gyres..

Personally I find the "gyres" to just be a "cool new thing" and really not any better thant regular controllable powerheads.. Certainly not worth the added price..

What % are you running the gyre on? They do have a slight hum when running on the higher settings. Hearing a slight hum when it pulses is normal too in that mode, but it definitely should not be very loud. There might just be an issue with your particular unit (At which Coralvue/Maxspect should take care of you since it's under warranty.) I have a 150 on my current tank (In the living room) running @ 40-50% and I don't even hear it. Also had a 130 on my old tank and it was pretty quiet as well.

Tried cleaning the whole thing but still no luck.. I'm only running it at 30% so that can't be the problem. When I first turn it on, it's very silent but over the course of an hour the humming slowly gets louder

Ordered new rotors hoping that's the problem, just hoping it's not the motor or shaft as they are quite expensive..

I'm more confused by the fact that it starts silent and then gets louder.... what's happening to it in the course of an hour to make the humming get worse?

Depending on what retailer you bought it from, they might let you send the current one back and send you out a new one. If not, contact Coralvue about the issue, as it's under warranty. Either way, you shouldn't have a problem getting it fixed/replaced.

Nothing that I can think of. I've owned two gyres and neither have exhibited this.

My Gyre 130 is running at 30% pulse and I don't even hear it. Sometimes, you just get a lemon (I went thru 3 faulty crossflows). Best of luck, hope you get it fixed!

Bought it preowned so I guess I just shot myself in the foot trying to get a replacement lol just turned it off and bubbles came out of it. When I turned it back on, it's silent again but I know it will start again in an hour

If it's the bushings, why does it only do it after an hour running and not when I first turn it on?

They are simple/cheap to replace, go ahead and do it since you probably don't know when they were last done. -and im guessing they were used then dried out.. Mine are both silent at 30%... just about everything is replaceable for low cost on these things.. give it a shot.. you could even order new paddles and cages if you wanted to.. (they come with a bunch of spares, so if you don't have any then he kep them, threw them away, or already used them)

The other option is try not using pulse mode... personally mine on pulse gave me more problems than the one i run on normal continuous.. and I don't see any real difference... other than I don't notice the stopping/starting noise. what would happen with mine on alternating gyre mode was for no particular reason it would lock up.. i'd unplug it, plug it back in, worked fine for days/weeks at a time.. going to just continuous one direction mode and I have 0 problems.. and I don't think my fish or corals really care what mode I put it on.

I took the rotors out and have been running the pump without them for a few hours now and it's still silent so the rotors must be the problem. Taking them I've noticed one blade is missing, I know this can cause macro bubbles but can the sound also be caused by this?
