Rust colored algae?

Does anyone know if this is algae, cyano, diatoms, or dinos? It goes away when the lights are off and comes back in full force once they're on again. I need to get an rodi water system. But I've had to use tap water once a month or so when my lfs doesn't have any rodi water.

I would say mostly diatoms if it is not stringy. However, if you have one type of algae, most of the time others are also present. So what you see there is probably a mixture of diatoms and dinos

Based on the picture I think diatoms only.
A secured answer can be given only after having this stuff under a microscope.

- check your silicate level. By 90% it is elevated but it should be 0!
- this can be an accelerator for other even more unwanted algae
- typical cures also: improve your water flow. If possible you should think also for a cleaning crew (digging sea stars, A.sexguttata or V. puellaris, digging snails, sand dollar)

Diatoms.. welcome to a new tank..
It will go away..

tap water certainly isn't helping prevent any potential future algae issues..

Been going strong for a few weeks now, but hopefully the diatoms will go away soon. I'm sure the tap water is a big part of it.
