Quick curing question

Thanks for all the help so far.
So I've orderef my tank and equipment. Started curing around 100 lbs of rock. Mix of pukani and tonga. Using 32 gallon brute cans. Have heater and power head going. Does it make a difference if I leave them open versus keeping covered with the lid. Felt like it may reduce smell to keep lid on.

i would leave open because you want gas exchange. closing lid might reduce the oxygen. the bacteria needs oxygen to grow
