Is this stand worthless?

https://www.petsmart.com/sale/fish/m...l?cgid=S300000

How worried should I be about putting a sump underneath this sort of stand? I think it is made out of fiberboard/MDF?

i believe its wood. If its not, just be sure to seal the inside with some kind of sealing paint and put silicon in all the corners where 2 boards meet.

I have one like it and it's actually wood and not MDF/Fiberboard. Even the reviewer at the bottom says it's real wood. I would however seal the inside of the stand if you plan on using a sump.

Polyurathane seal, couple of coats; and beforehand, maybe some additional braces before the poly coat, in upper corners if it were mine. Triangular braces add strength in 'shear' stress, as when a tank is bumped, or if you're prone to earthquake.
