Nerite snails breeding!
In the coming months I am going to breed zebra Nerite snails. Nerita natalensis
Unfortunately the only information I can find on breeding them is roughly the same paragraph that seams to only contain the basic information over and over: temp 79°F saltwater for the babies and feed the snails you start with algae, ( ![]() high calcium in water. I still need to know what the babies eat in there initial stage, and at what stage do they switch. Now as much as that info will help it is not what truly what i am after here. I am sure with a few hours of googling I will eventually find that out. What I really would like is to get in contact with someone who has written or know of someone who has written a book or a paper on the life cycle of these guys. Info like 21days from egg to larva, larva eat x for x number of days until changing to x stage. What nitrites prefer to put eggs on. Those kinds of things. I really would appreciate information from someone with a detailed experience in breeding these. I know it's possible with high success rates to breed Nerita natalensis because the guy I got mine from did it him self. Also he is dead so he cant be much help. Car accident, found out 2 days ago when I called to buy more. The current set up for breeding I got: 30 Galllon tank with no light aside from the algae growing bulb for 4 hours a day. Has pure calcium carbonate in filter media and on base, Going to be adding additional bio sand to bottom. Heated to 27.6°C with an power filter that will be turned off as soon as they hatch and the bio filter can sustain them. Current turbine placed high in water column. Adding soon a small layer of filter floss fluffed up and out for them to hang out in like fake moss. Salt water was home made by it's elemental compounds rather then instant ocean. NaCl, KCl and so on with slightly abundant CaCl2 salinity is currently 1.020. Eggs are added to this tank after being laid in freshwater not sure if that will cause a problem. |
