nicest fish under $75

I thought I would start a threat on what fish people really like that wont break the bank.

There are a lot of rare expensive fish out there that are amazing, but there are also many beautiful fish that we can get at more reasonable prices.

I have had a lot of fish over the years ranging from $10 - $500 and a lot of times non reefers will prefer a clown fish or a flame angel or a Goldflake or Achilles tang.

Personally my favorite fish under $75 is the Powder Blue Tang.

Let me know your favorite.

I'd say mine is either a green mandarin (Looks), or a starry blenny (Personality.)

I second the Starry Blenny based on personality.

Seriously how are we supposed to choose 1? I would say neon goby, I love that they are super tiny and are often not seen when people first look at the tank. I have had friends come over and look at my tank for like 10 minutes and then OH WHAT IS THAT LITTLE FISH! I also second the Powder Blue.

I'm a reefer and I prefer a Flame Angel. I do like Kole Tangs also.

I really haven't had a lot of issues with so called coral nippers but maybe that's cause I keep them fed very well. I also add fish before corals and it can be several months before I add corals to a tank. No proof it works but I have had great luck so far. I feed the flame angel at least 2 times a day and I never feed the same foods each time and feed a wide variety of foods combined with what he picks off the rocks he is very happy. I can tell when it's hungry cause he comes out literally right to the glass like feed me damn it!!

Good one. Flame angel might be the single most beautiful fish in this hobby.

So tough, I love flame angels. Amazing red color with blue on the fins. Also love the bright yellow/blue fins on the lemonpeel angel. I think overall if you want to see a stunning fish with color for under $75, Powder Blue tangs are also on the top of my list.

On another though, for around $20, a royal gramma with the beautiful purple meshed with yellow is underrated as well.

Diamond Watchman Goby have got to be one of the most entertaining for my $. Watching them sift, dig and move bits around is a pleasure. Sadly, I have had 2 jump out over the past year.

Not in any order:
Hippo Tang, Carpenter Flasher Wrasse, Jawfish, Midas Blenny, Royal Gramma, Starry Blenny, Orchid Dottyback, Naso Tang

Plenty of beautiful fishes with individual character for reasonable prices. I am not a fan of rare nor over priced livestock.

So do they get along well in the same tank? I love the smaller angels and I already have a flame angel.

I got them when they were small and quarantined them together. There is some chasing sometimes but nothing too serious.

Flame Hawk. Deep red color. Big personality. I love the way they perch on top of rocks and coral shift their eyes left, right, up and down.
