Minor tank crash

My 28 gallon nano isn't doing so good.. It started out with some mushrooms dying for some unknown reason which created a lot of slime. It started from 1 side of the mushroom rock then worked its way over, killing a birdsnest that was attached to the rock and also some clove polyps, unsure as to why. Because of all the death, the other corals not immediatly in contact with the rock are all upset, and my green nepthea has started to die. I did a 50% water change, and tested all params, everything within range. All fish are ok. Tank has been running carbon and a skimmer. It has been looking cloudy for the past few days which will not go away, even after water changes with carbon in the tank. I am not sure what to do at this point, I tested everything and did a 50% water change, but the death is still there. Should I move corals out of the tank? So far the only coral not in contact to where the mushrooms started dying that is too dying is my green nepthea, all others are looking unhappy save my red monti cap, which is oddly acting like nothing happened despite the cloudy water, I would think that this would be the first to die. Tank has been going strong for years and now all of a sudden this, and I don't know how to fix it. Anyone else been through anything similar? Almost all the corals I have in my 28 are just frags of stuff from my 180 (except nepthea and toadstool leather) the same corals in my other tanks are doing fine, so I do not think it is a general water issue. I use a RO/DI system. No fish have died, or even are reacting to the water issue. I have no reason to why this is happening, anyone have similar problems?

There had to be some cause to bring this about in an established tank. Think back. Did you add, change, forget something. What was the last livestock addition? Did it introduce something into the tank? Run all tests and compare results to the last, that is hoping you have kept a log.

Get living and healthy corals over into a clean qt tank and let them recover, and this also lets the tank cycle through the bad stuff.

Tank cleared up today, things appear to have stopped dying. Levels remained constant. I really haven't messed with my 28 gallon for a while, other than adding in 1 more spotted garden eel a few weeks ago, which I doubt could trigger a tank crash...
