Instant cloudy glass and water
Can anyone please help me. I have had my tank up and running for about 2 months now and I have a few fish and some corals. I am running a 120 gallon tank ,a esshopps s-200 skimmer, refugium, filter socks, gfo and carbon reactor, all my levels are 0 and my phosphate is 0.05. My temp is 76.7 and my white lights are on 7 hours a day and blue are on for 10 hours a day. I'm running leds. Now that I have explained that now my question. I can't seem to get my water crystal clear and my glass instantly gets a brown film over it within a half hour of cleaning it. I also seem to have quite a bit of particulate in my water. I use RODI water. How do I get my water crystal clear like I see all these other tanks?

I think it's a matter of perspective and judgement. If your livestock is healthy and growing, then you are doing it right.
If you saw one of my tanks, you'd think that your glass and water were from heaven.

Maybe but that still doesn't explain why my glass gets covered with a haze within minutes of me cleaning it.

You can use a filter sock or some Poly-Fil material. I don't run my filter sock all the time, maybe a day every 2 weeks. I use mostly the cheap Poly-Fil you can get at Walmart or an Arts and crafts store. It's cheap and it works well, even better than filter socks IMHO. I have no answer for the film on the tank glass after cleaning. Maybe you have so many particulates in the water it is just clinging back onto the glass after you clean it??

I'd say you have some phosphate slowly leaching from the rock. No you won't measure it because the diatomes, the brown stuff on your glass, are taking it up. Relax & be patient. ![]() |

If you're running gfo and carbon in reactors as well as a filter sock, your water should be crystal clear. your phosphates are in a good range but if your building up film (most likely algae) on the glass that quick you must have excess nutrients in the water. Have you checked nitrate ?

Patience. I had that at about the same time. It went away. The water and glass are clean now. Don't overreact.

Instant cloudy glass and water
I have the same dirty glass issue within hrs of cleaning it. My tank is only a couple months old also. I have filter socks, marinepure bio balls and UV filter. My water should be clear too but it's not likely to the tank still adjusting.
