Hey Everbody!

Hello all, my name is Ian and I'm new to saltwater aquariums. Thanks in advance for all your knowledge, I'm looking forward to learning a lot from you folks.

I had a 20g long tank roughly 10 years ago. Although it wasn't a total failure, it was not a complete success either. I came from cichlid tanks and had little understanding of alkalinty, ph, and dissolved solids. I'm hoping this community can help me further understand these critical relationships required to maintain a healthy, thriving, tank as I return to the hobby.

Once again, I have set up a 20g long tank, 62w t5 vho actinic + 10k, powerhead, hang on back filter, 100w heater.

Im currently cycling with live rock. I was able to seed the tank also. I used 20lbs of aragonite. After one week I have added 2 turbo snails and a peppermint shrimp. I'm still waiting for the last little nitrite to convert into nitrate, but all the ammonia is converted. Right now my kh is 140 and ph is 8. This is what I need to focus on more this time around. So far I have done one water change of 10% and adjust salinity to 1.022.

My plans are to keep only soft and LPS corals with like a few hermits, couple snails, a shrimp, blenny, worms, brittle, urchin, and possibly a clam.

A little long winded, but I'm very passionate about salt water aquariums. To me, they are the most peaceful creations to admire.

Thanks everybody!
