Asterina Starfish
Hi all,
I am a junior in college doing research with Asterina starfish. I chose this species because they are easy to maintain and most aquarists are eager to get rid of them. However, the local aquarist that I get them from has introduced shrimp into the aquarium and has a dwindling population. I was wondering if anyone knows of any places to get them, or if anyone is looking to get rid of them. I am willing to pay shipping for as many as possible. Thank you! |

Inland aquatics actually sells them but they have a $50 flat rate shipping charge.

Maybe your research can finally put an end to the potential "myths" associated with asternia starfish or the proper identification of the specific species... Certain species have been thought to eat corals,etc.. so all are lumped into the get it out of my tank hysteria..
I'm happy to have them in my tank and have never had an issue

Call your lfs. They might have them in their live Rock tank. Tell them you are doing a paper for school, they will most likely let you have them for free.

If you have a few, put them in a tank and wait and you will have plenty in a few days. You should easily be able to create your own supply. Or are you looking for additional species/populations?

it might also be helpful to check out the local sections, see if there is a saltwater club in your area. they may have other members able to help contribute specimens.
failing that the want to buy and want to trade sections here might be of some help.

Find another local reefkeeper! BTW, are you attempting to test one specific species, or just lumping them all in together?

Mine eat zoas. I used to keep a Harlequin but I think he passed on because I have had a population increase lately
