Leather mushrooms issues

So I've had issues keeping leather mushrooms in my tank. They turn brown within a week and then deteriorate into nothing. Has anyone had this issue? It's happened twice on 2 separate occasions. My other corals and fish are doing well and thriving.
Weekly 10-15 gallon water changes.
Water parameters:
Salinity- 1.026
Calcium 460
Kh 8
Nitrates 5
Phosphate .25
PH/alk- 8
Mag 1400

They should ideally all be 0 can see you have nitrates of 5 could be the cause of the issue your having

5ppm nitrate is fine, even for most sps.

To clarify, are we talking about leathers (Sarcophyton and others) or mushrooms (Discosoma, Rhodactis, etc)?

What are your specific lights? tank size? Flow?

Yes it is leather toadstool mushrooms. I have a 75 gallon tank with xf230 gyre pump. I tried both in different flow areas and different lighting areas. My lighting are maxspect razor r420r currently running 9 hours a day: 12-930pm.

I thought that could be the issue so I shortened the light cycle before I attempted the 2nd one. Placed it lower and still had the same results.

Your water parameters are NOT an issue at all..

Shortening the light cycle is not really the same as reducing intensity..

Basically, at the LFS it was healthy opened and extended, first few days in the tank would be the same result. After that, it would not extend any longer and start to turn brown in color and then melt into like a brown goo. Both times I attempted them I have had to same results. I'm willing to try a 3rd time but would hate to spend more money on it just to melt them. 3rd times a charm right?! >.<
My fish are alive and well including my mandarin. My corals Zoas, torch coral, purple long tentacle anemone and other mushrooms are fine just the leather ones having issues with those. And possibly unrelated I can't keep snails alive in my tank either, 1-2 weeks top before they start falling off the glass. I equate that to no/little algae build up in the tank.

I understand. I did both when I reduced the light cycle I shortened the time that the lights are at their brightest by 2 or so hours. My lights use to run for much longer with a preset light cycle.

Yes a lack of food/visible algae will certainly do in snails.. They need food..

I would get another shroom and place it in the shade under a rock overhang or whatever you can do and see how it does..
I'll buy into your 3rd times a charm

Some leathers like high nitrates. 5 can be a bit low for some. We had some Toadstools and Finger Leathers in a small tank. Transferred them to a larger cleaner system. The Toadstools grew out of control and the Fingers dissolved. Our general NO3 was 12/25. It is difficult to mix SPS, LPS, and softees in relation to all the different parameters.

Just because some corals can tolerate higher levels vs others doesn't necessarily mean they "like high nitrates"... They can just tolerate it better..

lenght vs strenght
Place the shroom in the shade for a couple of days and then see about moving it around.

Agree. It's too much light. Can you control the blues intensity?
Mushrooms can position themselves. I'd put them on the bottom in shade, and just let them go where they like.

My leather are doing great with undetectable nitrates and 0.12ppm phosphates.

Do you have MarinePure media or anything else that can leak aluminium? People normally do not have problems with them, but they leak some Alu and leathers are supposed to be most sensitive to aluminium poisoning, Randy Holmes-Farley was writing a lot about this in another thread.

No, no media at the moment. Thinking of getting some for my sump for extra filtration but nothing at the moment.

Yes, I can adjust my lighting. I currently use R420R LED 320 watt 15000K Lighting System - Maxspect.

I do not use a preset as I feel the lights are on for too long so I have adjusted them but perhaps not as well as I should have? That is always a possibility.

I got another mushroom I've uploaded it. It was opened at the lfs and started opening last night and showing its tentacles but hasn't yet this morning.

You really need to stop call it a mushroom, some of the advice is not correct because of it.

The common name for that coral is toadstool leather, it likes strong random flow and high lighting (after some acclimation). Mushrooms (Corallimorpharia) like more gentle flow and low light. toadstools are typically hardy in most conditions (excluding the yellow figi toadstool) but if it is not getting enough flow that could do it in. what do you have for in tank circulation?

Maxspect Gyre. Where the toadstool mushroom is currently is high flow and not a lot of lighting for him as he is under an overhang area.

NOT A THING!! IT'S NOT A MUSHROOM! IT'S A LEATHER! Toadstool leather if you will. Despite being soft corals, they prefer higher light and higher flow.
