Chaeto reactor

I have an old calcium reactor that I picked up used and am looking to convert to a chaeto reactor. Most of the reactors I have seen people DIY or commercial buy have a feed tube that runs from top to bottom for water in and then an exit on the top.

The reactor body I am using has an inlet on the bottom with a couple outlets (or what could be outlets) on the top. As long as I add a perforated plate above the inlet at the bottom to 'spread' the water flow wouldn't this be the same as running an inlet tube from top to bottom?

Any opinions?

Thanks
Don
