Acan help!
I came home the other day and all of my acans were shrunk up and today when I came home they are almost receding into the skeleton. Also one of my frog spawns is looking ****ed and a really sad Kenya tree that is usually almost always open and huge. I have had the tank for about 5 years now and never seen this. Talked to guys at lfs which are pretty knowledgeable about most stuff and they couldn't figure it out. I checked with my test kits and then checked again with theirs, same test readings.
55 gal long 20 gal sump Protein skimmer Chaeto 2 3 month old black box full spectrum led lights slowly increasing the % from 5% 3 months ago to 30% whites now 70% blues. Blues run 9 hours whites run 7 hours moon lights run 12 hours Salinity 1.026 Calc 400 Alk 9 Mag maxed out read 1500 not sure how far over. I was dosing magnesium recently as the other test kit that I had was reading false results super low around 1250. I also switched water changes to a different lfs where they jack up the mag on their salt mix not sure if that would have anything to do with why my acans closed up. Other than the mag dosing, nothing has changed, not the flow, light increasing feeding etc. any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. It won't let me attach pictures from my phone right now will add photos when I get back home. |

Have your parameters been consistently staying at 400 and 9?
Is there any fluctuations through the week? Raising any parameter too quickly could effect corals. When you say you switched water from lfs, are you buying pre made saltwater? |

Yes the params are staying consistent through the week I do water change on sundays which usually comes in between 8 and 9, as the tank consumes through the week usually gets between 7 and 8 after the water change bringing it back up to replenish. I used to test every Wednesday and Sunday, then the parameters started becoming consistent through the week so I started test only on sundays.
When I say I switched water, I mean from lfs to another lfs. The one I was going to always had low mag, I switched to another lfs water because they're closer and they seem to pay more attention to the params keeping the mag closer to 1500, calc between 400-420 and the all between 8 and 9. The guy who works there is a good friend of mine, so I know he's not bsing me about it. Just super weird, hasn't been any swings, changes in flow or anything like that Here's some pictures any recommendations would be appreciated. I just cleaned all pumps and power heads, as well as adding chemipure elite. https://ibb.co/gjvY9a https://ibb.co/fyKRUa https://ibb.co/eGMO9a Also worth noting the inhabitants of the tank Sail fin tank 2 clown fish Aptasia eating file fish Neon goby Diamond goby 2 fire fish Handful of snails and crabs |

Try lowering mag. 1350 ish is my target usually. What are your nitrates and phosphates reading? Your tank is overstocked with fish, especially that tang, so I'd bet they are pretty high as well.

Surprisingly no, I test 0 nitrates, all the fish are on the very small size. The mag is down to 1350 now after using different lfs was that doesn't pump Chems into it. Phosphates are near 0 I run chemipure elite so phosphates are never really over abnormal level. I don't over feed or anything. I did notice in the middle of the night they are opening up a little bit now with they're feeder tentacles out but I've the light goes on they shrink back up, I turned the lights down 10% to see if that would make any difference but it doesn't seem to change anything

Water temp is consistent 77/78 live in fl no no need for a heater and our house a/c stays at 75 all day for the dogs. Reefernoob can you elaborate on the lights thing. Lights are leds bought in January, I have been progressively increasing them 1-2%/week since January. I also took 3 of the acans and placed them in my nano to see if t was a light issue and they don't seem to be doing any better in their and that has a brand new light purchased 2 weeks ago
