If you have a refugium, why would you need this?

I was thinking of using this instead of having a refugium

I didnt have a place for a refugium, so I tried a skimz MBR157. I have had it running 1.5 months.

It has good growth and is pretty easy to clean. Only cleaned it once so far.

The pump is little louder than my other 2 DC pumps. Its not bad, but you can barely hear it.

The rubber gaskets are a little hard to align, cant say I like that part of the design. Not too bad, just not great.

There are 3 plates with slots to separate chambers inside the reactor. I wish there was a fourth plate by exit port to keep the algae of it. Algae tends to get pushed out the exit from the top chamber.

There is no light spill, so algae doesn't grow anywhere else in my sump.

The light and the pump are easy to unplug. Then I just pull the whole unit out to trim/clean. The only pain is you need to unscrew and open the top a little to get the water to drain out. I wish there was a hole/valve that could be opened for air. Again not a big deal, just not perfect.

Its hard to tell how much algae is inside the unit without opening. I cleaned it after a month. I started with very little macro algae, it had a bunch when I opened it.

For me Im happy with it. I grows algae at a good clip and not to bad clean / trim. It is a little pricey for what you get, but it was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a compact design that would sit in my sump. I may lose the pump and plumb to my return in the future.

Overall I would give it 4/5. Its a good design with a couple small not bad issues.

Awesome! That's what I was looking for. Where did you buy yours from? BRS is the only place I've seen with it listed so far.
