Should I be worried?
Good morning all,
As some of you are aware I am currently installing and build my new reef tank. This morning when I got up, I have noticed this in the glass, not sure how it has appeared as I've not been working on it for a few days and we have no kids since they moved out. It measure 5mm wide by 8ish mm long, the thickness of the glass is around 10mm thick. There are no sharp edges on the inside or outside, it would also not to appear inside the tank, just on the outside, the silicone also seems intact on the outside and inside. I don't fancy scrapping the tank after it cost me so much to be built in the first place. I have attached a picture for your reference. |

I had an Oceanic 75 show tank with a chip like that for 12 years and no problem. I will say I did worry about it the whole time.

Agreed I think it will be fine as well. I had a 55 run like that for many years no problem. Just look at it periodically to make sure it doesn't run a crack. Should be fine tho

I can't help but wonder if a windshield repair kit, like the ones available from a parts store, might help to prevent any cracks from spidering off.

If it helps you sleep at night, I hit a 20 gallon tank tossing something over my couch, cracked the front of I t and some shards came off. Patched it with a piece of glass from a picture frame, turned that side the back, and ran it like that for over a year with no leaks.
Ah the days of being a poor newlywed. Lol |
