Stray voltage problem, Please help!
I started getting shocked pretty good putting my finger in the water of my sump. I unplugged each piece of equipment one by one to find problem. I finally had everything unplugged in contact with water and still was getting a shock (although less of one). Any thoughts? I'm worried about my livestock, and can't understand why still getting a shock with nothing on...plus I have a ground probe in

Unplug everything even things near the water. Lighting can also cause this. Get a voltmeter. Do not use yourself to test this. You will have to the AC function on the voltmeter. You are looking for volts and not milivolts when checking. I would not come in contact with the water until you have the issue resolved. Plug things back in one at a time. Don't forget probes in the tank as a source. Also malke sure you have a GFCI breaker between the power and your tank. Ethier install a GFCI outlet or get a powerstrip with one. By all means be careful in tracking this down. You may have to remove the ground probe also since that can be a source also if you have an issue with you house wiring.

Pull the ground probe out and see if the shock is gone? Your service maybe using your tank as a grounding means! Use a multi-meter for this task, and the voltage maybe as low as two volts. It is current that is shocking you

Just a reminder..
All line powered submerged equipment MUST be protected via a GFCI device (RCD in other countries).. That can be an outlet, the main breaker or even a power strip/outlet adapter with such functionality.. Failure to follow that could kill you.. The next time that "shock" could be your electrocution..
