Moving to 90gallon!

Started with a 29gallon biocube, did a lot of research and immediately pulled the sponges in the first chamber and replaced it with a media rack. Put in filter floss at the top, carbon in the middle and chemipure elite in the bottom. 2nd chamber I kept the sponge and bioballs, 3rd chamber held the pump and heater. I have an RO/DI unit and use reef crystals for making salt. Typically do 10% water changes a week or if I skip a week I'll do slightly more.

Tank has been up and running for over a year with no issues. Have four fish: yellow goby, clown fish, royal gramma and an orchid dottyback.

Inverts: Skunk Shrimp and pistol shrimp (paired with the goby).

Corals: Devil's Finger, Hammer, bubble, mushroom coral

Live rock, live sand.


We are going to move everything to a 90 gallon tank. My question is can I get a way with a canister filter as opposed to a refugium and skimmer. I would clean the canister filter every two weeks during a water change. Probably swap out some of the media for what I used in the 1st chamber of the biocube. I will be adding more live sand obviously to the 90 gallon, and also moving the live rock (only about 25lbs at this point) but initially setting up the tank with dead rock and have the live rock seed it (mostly so I can aquascape it properly). Question is lighting (it does not come with any) and can I get a way with a canister filter over sump/refugium/skimmer, knowing I will be cleaning it every two weeks and doing regular water changes.

We will be adding fish but keeping the amount of corals at its current level, maybe adding an anemone for the clownfish.
