Florida tax bill for buying fish tank fro BRS?

So I live in Florida and ordered a Red Sea fish tank from BRS during the 4th of July sale. The tank was delivered by Road Runner. Today I received a letter from the Florida department of revenue stating that I owe state taxes to the tune of 6% of the purchase price?

The letter states:

Section 212.06(8), Florida Statutes, imposes use tax on out-of-state purchases if sales tax was not paid to the vendor at the time of purchase. Use tax is due on all tangible personal property brought into Florida for personal or business use, consumption, distribution, or storage to be used or consumed at a later date in this sate.

Has anyone else ever seen anything like this?

Not I, but the vendor should have added the tax to the final price.

Since we have no state income tax, FL will get their money one way or another.

Florida tax bill for buying stuff online out of state.

I had no idea that I have to pay Florida taxes on all out of state online purchases... See attached letter. If you live in Florida be mindful of buying anything online of value.

Looks like I get to pay a 50% penalty as well. Going to be about $400 tax.

This happened to me a few years ago. I think they catch the carrier at the border inspection station and look at the bill of lading.
