that just looks like a wet coral skeleton to me.

would it provide better context to get a picture of it in the water?

Looks like it might be an encrusting sponge, but in the water, without blue lighting, would make ID a bit easier I think

looks like two different types of sponges to me.

that's usually a good sign when sponges start growing.

I would have to cover 80% of my rock with epoxy.

Sponge....

By taking the rock out of water, you probably just killed it.

Sponges show your water conditions are good, and they are very good filter feeders. No idea why anyone would want to kill them?

yeah, why would you want to kill them?

most of them do a good job filtering the water, they're not hurting anything, and they look nice. there's really no reason to kill them off.

but as homer said, bringing them up out of the water probably did a good job of it. if they get air trapped in their matrix that's usually the end for them.

-edit- just fyi i have these things literally all over my tank.

they tend to self regulate. in my tank their growth is usually confined to shaded areas where not much else grows.

If all that yellow is sponge, I'd be concerned about it growing up the skeleton of my coral like it appears to be. Most of that Euphyllia in his picture looks dead or dying.
