Heaters

Hello,

I'm looking to purchase heaters for my tank build and I have read multiple heaters are better than 1 or large heaters.

My tank total water volume will be approx 66 gallons so I was thinking of using 3 x Eheim 75w heaters on an external temp controller?

What are your thoughts and opinions?

Sounds like a good plan..
75 x 3 = 225W
66 x 3 = 198
225 > 198
Assuming no more than say a 10 degF (5 degC) temp difference that should be just fine.. I usually recommend about 3x water volume
2 x 100W or 125W is what I personally would choose.. No real need for 3.. 2 is good..

+1 I agree with this.

Put your heaters on a controller. When heaters fail, the always fail on.

Summer I unplug all of mine. Winter it could never overheat the tank

One good 300W heater is better, no reason to add multiple points of failure.

your tank should have more then enough turnover to not need multiple heaters.

1 X 150W should be enough, I did 300G on a 175w for over 20 years. Of course I had MH keeping the water warmer then normal.

Outy, the point of multiple smaller heaters is that a single failure will be a much smaller impact. If a 300w heater sticks on in a small tank, your livestock will cook in no time. If a 75w heater sticks in a small tank, it's probably not going to cause any losses and you'll be able to solve the problem with minimal impact.

Yes there's a theoretical increase in failure rate but it's arguable that you're making a positive tradeoff in terms of overall reliability.

Fair enough, I'm fine with 1 and failsafe, everyone has different beneficial needs, tank size depending.

Yes.

And you'll be able to get by with the functioning 75 watt until you replaced the one that failed.
