how long to cure tonga dry rock -- brs? just in RODI, no acid
Like it says above, how long is predicted to get the phosphates out? I'm not looking to cycle it (add bacteria), just looking to get the phosphates down to super low. They are in a 5 gallon bucket rodi , not salt water. with power head. it's only 20 #. It's been 4 weeks, maybe 3(?). I started about 200 ppm(?) then it went over 500 (Hanna Checker). It's been at 165-188 for a week or so. I do a water change every 3-4 days -- dump all the water and put in new water. Should I change out more often? I dont want to do acid, just b/c I'm not in a super rush, and there are more steps . But I want this cured soon, as it has been almost a month :-D .
Thanks! |

huh? err... huh?
I see no mention of LC or GFO... But it could take months to years with those levels (didn't even think that to be possible).. Do they just soak it in phosphate? And either your numbers are wrong or what a joke.. You couldn't pay me to use such absolutely crappy rock.. 200ppm phosphate? huh? Thats ridiculous..

I would use some LC, it's going to take a long time to get that down without it, GFO will get exhausted very quickly at that level. This is a pretty popular brand I see a lot of reefers use:

Hi,
It was this rock: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-t...live-rock.html and I didnt mean 200 ppm!!! lol. That is horrible. It's 200 PPB , so 0.2 ppm. I'm using the ultra low phosphorous checker, hanna. The video on brs site is scary, though, looking at it. Since even with acid cure, after 4 weeks+ it still shows 0.4 ppm. 400 ppb. *are they not changing the water out. Because obviously the PO4 wont go down if the water it's bathing in is not changed out. It doesnt just break down from what I know. So that video doesnt really help. It's only 5 galons for my bucket, so I guess I'd get it down much faster with chaging it out daily? Is that what people do? I would think I need to aim for 10 ppb, if not lower (?). I woudl think if it has any detectable phosphates, then algae would just layer on ttop of the rock in the tank. Even if I have GFO b/c GFO just gets the p04 in the water column obviously. *what is LC*? THanks! |
