To be very honest with you, even with the best husbandry methods those guys have very poor survival rates in captivity. It's a species best left out in the wild. A majority of reefers just cannot keep up with the nutrition demands of that species.

They are safe. However, they will starve unless you regularly dose with fine plankton (e.g., phytoplankton).

Definitely won't eat fishes... but many fishes will nip at the scallop, cleaner shrimps will harass it, and you need to maintain high levels of plankton for it. Most hobbyists can't keep their water quality high when they feed enough for scallops.

Shanks,

With 45 years of reef keeping experience, I have kept both flame scallops and sea apples for 18 months and 24 months respectfully. The flame scallops requires smaller phytoplankton than the sea apple which likes larger prey. When I stirred the substrate in the 75G Jaubert Plenum that was 20 years mature, the feathers, fans and tentacles came out to feed. To complete the live food buffet, the 30G mud macro refugium also provided live food for the tank. Mud was crawling with reproducing worms, larvae for corals, and pods lived to recycle nutrients back to tank as live food.

The reason I got so detailed with the needs of flame scallops is because I went back and read some of your threads. It is good that you seek knowledge. The wisdom to apply that knowledge is a different matter. Wisdom comes with experience and maturity. On a previous thread about pods, I tried to give you some of that wisdom.

Do not put flame scallops into a tank less than 2 years old. There are certain ethics about maintaining live creatures from the wild. We as stewards of our tanks should only keep what we can maintain in good health.

Enough of the soapbox.
Cheers

They don't live a whole long time even in optimal conditions, couple years usually at best, most of the time much less, and they don't like light or to be out in the open much, so expect you may not see it very well and they may even completely hide, they will move on their own just fine(which is kinda neat to see in itself)
Safe to fish.
