Long term reviews from Gyre users?

Looking for some long-term usage reviews of the gyre. How's it holding up? Any issues? Do your corals/fish like the flow? Do you have any regret buying the gyre vs another pump?

I have a 120g and 2 "old-style" mp10's (from my previous 38g) and one of them is not in use due to a bad wetted. No coral right now so flow isn't THAT much of an issue. Looking to upgrade so I can finally get back into coral and thinking about going the gyre route and having one mp10 on the opposite side on a more random mode just to shake things up a bit. If the gyre is great by itself, then even better. Less things plugged in is always a plus when it comes to the electrical bill.

The first gen was not good. The electrical cable starts to crack. Second generation is really good. They move a lot of water.

I just got one of the ice cap 150s. It’s is super strong and pretty quiet. Was quite a bit cheaper that the og gyre. But still has plenty of modes. I’ll let you know how it does.

I've got a pair of 250's on my 120DT. They are on the back glass on either side of the center overflow, about 4 or 5" from the surface. They max out at 50%. At 60% water will begin to trickle down the outside in a couple spots. I attribute that to the trim not being sealed completely to the glass.

The first couple times you take one apart it is a bit tricky. After that it really isn't much more difficult than any other power head.

Early on I had a problem with one of the motor blocks. Customer Service was excellent - they shipped one out that day with a preprinted return label for the defective one.

They move a ton of water and do it differently than other choices. The corals are doing great with it, and the fish seem to enjoy surfing.

Can you share what mode you are using the Gyres?

I have been using a couple Gyre 150’s for a few years now. They are my favorite pumps. They create the best flow out of all the powerheads I have used. For reference, I have two MP40’s and a Tunze. I love the gyres so much, I put one in my sump to keep detritus from settling there. So far I have had no problems with any of the three. Just make sure to keep them clean to ensure they stay silent.

Alternating, ramp from 10-50%, so when one side is ramping up the other is heading down. There is not a spot in the tank that doesn’t have good flow - to the point where some LPS are problematic. My Duncan looks like cousin IT with his head out the car window.

Thanks for the feedback. I am using Alternate OGC mode at 40% ramping up and 30% in reverse mode and I like it a lot. At the moment I only have 1 XF-250 on one side and at the other side there is a Jebao RW-15 at W1 settings.

I have a 150 on my 120g that’s been running for 1.5 years. Great wide gentle flow. I have mine alternate with 60% forward and 100% reverse in two minute blocks. I have a coral box pump on the other side that lets the gyre in the tank change directions when the Gyre 150 is running in reverse. Overall I like it, but they are a pain in the *** to clean. Honestly I dread every time I need to clean mine because inevitably it takes me 2-3 tries to get it back together properly so it runs correctly. Still great wide flow that is really unparalleled from other pumps and has been super reliable for me.

Thanks. Seems as a similar setup as I have mine. I hope I never have to be cleaning mine. jajajajajajja. This is getting me scare when comes to the cleanup part.

I used to clean my Jebaos monthly so lets see how it goes.
