Can't crank up the flow on my mp10

I have a really strange problem. I have a 40g tank with about 40-50lbs of rocks. I have a canister filter and have the outlet pointing at the surface on the left side. The mp10 is on the opposite side (diagonally to the outlet of the canister filter) in the front and sort of working against the flow from the canister filter (If I don't do this the flow will be too strong on the right side of the tank due to current coming from the outlet of the canister filter). I can only turn it up to about 10-15% (two lights not more) in gyre mode. All other modes are basically too strong even at 10%. I tried it in the back of the tank which creates a massive gyre that beats up my mushroom and/or (depending on which side I put it in the back) my euphilyllias. I had it deeper in the tank, more towards the surface but it doesn't matter the flow is always too strong. Maybe I'm lacking the fundamental understanding of flow in a reef tank. I have no idea. I'm literally about to take the mp10 out because it's just not worth the money if I can't use it to its full capacity. I might as well use a simple Korrallia. Maybe you guys could help me find out what I'm doing wrong because it's 100% due to my inability to find the right flow pattern for my tank.

I have 2 MP10's in a 42 gallon hex tank. The highest they get is 50% on nutrient transport mode. I also have Reeflink and with that it runs in several different modes during the day.

If I am understanding you correctly, you have the MP mounted on the front glass of the tank? If so, I would move it to the side of the tank opposite your return, just high enough that it doesn't blow your sand around and then play with the flow rates.

I ran 2 mp10's on 60% reef crest mode in my 30G biocube. The trick is to have your aquascape so you can place lower flow corals in lower flow areas(IE behind rocks).

I had one up high for surface agitation, and one lower for flow on the sandbed. Never had an issue with too much flow for euphyillia.
