Eheim compact 3000 vs 1260 (quietest)
Which of these 2 pumps will be the quietest?

I think their both about the same. I’ve had 1260’s and I have a couple Compact 1000’s (not the 3000 but similar enough) on my AWC they are both very quiet pumps.. That said, get the 1260. They are bullet proof and won’t fail you. I’ve had 1260’s go well over 10 years. It’s a great pump. The Compact’s are more of a budget built pump. Not a bad pump but not as reliable as 1260.

^^^What he said^^^
If you want a reliable pump that can easily last decades, get a 1260 or 1262 (same motor, different volute). One of my 1262's I got used in 1988 after it had been used for an unknown length of time as the circulation pump in a feeder goldfish tank at the LFS I worked at. It is still going. I have changed the impeller once, and clean it maybe yearly. For that matter, I still have the 120g Oceanic tank that it came with. They may not be the most efficient pumps around, but for day in - day out performance they cannot be beat.

1260's have more head pressure than the compacts too.

The 1260 amd 1262 are the same pump, same motor. The volute or impeller use in the 1262 is a little different and that makes the 1262 has a little extra pressure. Other than that both pumps are the same.
If you take the impeller from the 1262 and put it in the 1260 pump then the 1260 becomes a 1262 (except) the label on the cover. I had both pumps before when i was still runni g my big tank. Sent from my GT-I9192 using Tapatalk |

How reliable are the 1260/1262s if you have them set to turn off and on once a day during feeding?

I just built up my tank with twin 1262s. Love them and they last forever. Do a little research on the 3000s. It looked to me the Eheim isn’t making them anymore. Go the old school, if for no other reason than parts have been easily available for the last 30 plus years. Literally no other piece of equipment in this hobby has been around, unchanged, as the Eheim pump has. They’re indestructible.

I want to use one in my little REEFER sump but they are large. I guess it's all those extra copper windings that make them so bullet proof and big. It would take up almost the whole return chamber.
